Chris Cornell; 25 April 09 @ The Depot

Chris Cornell
Chris Cornell's voice was a part of the soundtrack of my youth. Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog... for a kid who liked rock music, Cornell's vocals were hard to avoid. And yet, somehow, I never was captivated by any of his music.

Until tonight.

Chris Cornell is a bad ass.

The legend walked onto the stage...

with a swagger that can only be earned by having endured the cheers of millions. He rocked his new tunes. He dominated his old material. And he OWNED the Michael Jackson classic, Billy Jean.

Apparently, Billy Jean was meant to be a smoldering pile of bluesy coals.... because that's what he did, and it was *amazing*.
Cornell's rendition was hair raising - I'm not sure whose genius was more highlighted... Jackson, for having written such a solid tune, or Cornell, for getting right to the heart of that song and wearing it on his sleeve.

Beyond Billy Jean... we had plenty of servings from his Audioslave catalog, too. "Set if Off" was a priceless shot of adrenaline and testosterone.

Beyond being a rock legend and exceptional performer - Chris Cornell is a man of the fans. Follow him on Twitter - the guy cares about staying in touch with all who made this life possible.

I'm a fan.
